The F40 supercar of Italian car marque Ferrari amazed the world back in 1987 when it made its world debut. Unlike any other car that came before it, the Ferrari F40 had the good race car stance and looked a bit awkward on the streets. The prancing horse depended on a V8 engine with twin turbo and a displacement of 2.9L that gives out 471 horsepower. And that number is just an overkill for a vehicle that can get a license plate.

Ferrari limited the production run to just 1,315 vehicles and each had a shoot-for-the-star price of $400,000. While any F40 can be considered a rare commodity, the F40 Prototypes are even considered rarer. And if you know how it is like, these prototypes have been converted to race and became more desirable if the car has a documented history of competition.

One good car that has all the above elements will hit the auction block in Monaco organized by RM Auction. The chassis number of the F40 Prototype is 74047 which is the sixth of the eight prototypes built by Ferrari for testing before hitting the halls of the auto show in Frankfurt in 1987. This car was converted according to the specs of F40 LM and have been owned by Ferrari until the early 90s before it was sold to a private owner.

The F40 Prototype was converted to have the GT specs with upgrades to the suspension and engine tweaks to up the output to 590 horses, bigger brakes by Brembo, a system to supress fire, wider wheels, and quicker system when it fills up its gas tank. The car participated in the series of Gran Criterium Supercar GT and won podium finishes.

The Ferrar F40 prototype that will go on auction in Monaco is so desirable for its long, documented, and diverse racing history. The expected price for this Ferrari will start at $919,800 to around $1,182,600. It will be sold during the Grimaldi Forum this May when a lot of Ferrari collectibles will go on auction.

According to the Italian car manufacturer, it won’t be pushed into making a four-door saloon. Not even when its rivals, Porsche and Aston Martin, have already been prodded in that direction. The declaration was made by Ferrari’s Chief Executive Amadeo Felisa. He said that Ferrari will be more than happy to stay loyal to the tradition begun by founder Enzo Ferarri. Ferrari was quoted to tell his subordinates, “never do four doors”.

This was brought up when Ferrari announced that it will soon be releasing a hybrid vehicle. The sports car manufacturer also said that it’s using a fuel-saving stop-start mechanism for all of its cars. Previously, Ferrari also declared that it will never do these things. When interrogated by the press about their previous declarations, Felisa coolly replied that the production of the hybrid vehicle was forced onto them by a regulation.

Felisa added that as of this moment, there is no law mandating companies to produce only four-door vehicles. There is also no present demand for a four-door car from a Ferrari. This is probably due to the fact that if their customers wanted a four-door vehicle, they could always opt for a Maserati.

He coolly added that the company has been around for six decades without any need to produce four-door cars. The strength of Ferrari as a car manufacturer, according to Felisa, relies on it making its cars “the right way”. He did add a disclaimer at the end of the interview, though. Felisa said that he’s not categorically claiming four-doors “wrong” for the image of Ferrari. He just can’t trace the image in the company’s heritage.

Lovers of Italian car marques will have something to rejoice. With all the Fiat restructuring and plan revisions, the company’s topman Sergio Marchionne confirmed that the Alfa Romeo will be rolling off the US shore once again in 2012.

The midsize Giulia will be among the first vehicles to reach their dealerships in North America. The Giulia will be offered as a sedan and as a wagon. The plans were not disclosed yet but we can bet the Chrysler network of stores will be used to market the brand.

By 2013, Alfa Romeo wants to offer the MiTo 5-door hatchback in the United States which will be rolling out with the new Spider. Will it be anywhere near the looks of the 2uettottanta that was displayed as a concept car in Geneva?

Two years after the brand’s US comeback, Alfa will refresh its hatchback Giullietta to fit the bill for the market. A bigger USV will also come in the same year getting its DNA from the Jeep Liberty.

According to The Alfa Romeo Blog, the automotive circle will be buzzing about a ton of Fiat news as they announce their 5 year plan for their brands.

The Pagani Zonda and its different variants is an ultimate supercar from whichever direction you look at it. It is carbon-fiber insanity. The replacement of the Zonda, the C9, seems to be locked on setting the bar higher. The C9, which will also be sold in the United States, was spied recently and some of its pictures have created some buzz over the internet.

Thanks to Horacio Pagani himself, some of the details about the car is really satisfying the ears of supercar lovers. The C9 will have a V-12 6.0L power plant on a twin turbo that will be sourced from the Mercedes-AMG. The output of the C9 will be a whopping 700 horsepower and a torque of 737 pound-feet.

The numbers are a bit lower compared to the 750 hp of the Zonda R but they are still within the supercar range that can run side by side with the Shelby SSC Ultimate Aero TT and the Bugatti Veyron.

Click here to view the embedded video.

The production run might just be limited to 60 cars but that is a big jump from the 16 hand built units every year. The boost in productions will be supported by the new state of the art facility near its Modena factory. The assembly will still be painstaking with the C9 having 3,70 parts which include a chassis made from carbon-titanium, specially designed Pirelli tires, and electronics from Bosch.

The Zonda will slow down its production until it ceases with the roll out of the C9 which has a starting price expected to be at $1.2 million.
